Abstract
A cool-period field experiment was conducted to assess the effect of rate and date of seeding winter rye on soil erosion amounts at varying slopes. The lower seeding rate (provincially recommended) was ineffective in reducing sediment loss at any slope. The higher seeding rate showed overall superiority but only on the basis of the earliest (provincially recommended) seeding date. Key words: Rye cover (winter), potato production (intensive), crop rotation, erosion (water), erosion (snowmelt)
