Abstract
A rapid and simple method is described for the routine determination of chromogen in feces of cattle and sheep. Fresh feces, sheep 2 gm. and cattle 3.5 gm., are macerated with 5 ml. acetone, transferred quantitatively into a Bailey-Walker siphon cup, and extracted with 1000 ml. 85 per cent acetone flowing continuously over the sample at the rate of 10 to 12 ml. per minute. Absorbance of appropriate dilution (5 or 10 ml. aliquot diluted to 50 ml.) of the extract is determined at 413 mμ and the chromogen content per unit dry matter is calculated.
