Abstract
Two 6 × 2 factorial experiments were conducted to determine the response of broiler-type and Leghorn male chicks to various levels of dietary manganese (two breeds, six levels of manganese). Experiment 1 used a wheat–soybean meal based diet, and experiment 2 used a corn–soybean meal based diet. The basal diets contained 37.9 and 51.7 ppm of manganese in experiments 1 and 2, respectively. Supplementing either diet with manganese from manganese sulfate had no significant effect on body weight of either breed of chicken nor did it significantly influence feed-to-gain ratios.
