Abstract

Coronary artery blood flow ([Formula: see text]) and vessel diameter ( D) around bifurcations may be related by an exponential relationship ([Formula: see text]·∝· Dc). The value of the exponent is frequently suggested to range between 2.0 and 3.0. We performed a meta-analysis of 4,524 articles, to derive an optimum exponent of 2.39. This challenges prior assumptions regarding coronary physiology and has implications for the assessment, diagnosis, and interventional treatment of coronary artery disease.
