Compressive Strengths of Pavement Recycling Materials and New Approach for Cement Content Determination

Abstract

Abstract This research investigated the compressive strengths of cement treated with three types of aggregates (lateritic soil; crushed rock-blended reclaimed asphalt pavement; and a mixture of crushed rock, reclaimed asphalt pavement and lateritic soil). The strength was evaluated through a series of unconfined compression tests in the laboratory. Then, the test results were analyzed using statistical analysis. The results and analysis indicated that the strength of the cement-treated coarse-grained materials was controlled by the plasticity index and the water to cement ratio. Base on the results and analysis, this research developed a new approach for cement content determination. In addition, the proposed method should be useful for determining the proper cement content, as it requires less time and a smaller number of tests by using only two trials. A practical method to evaluate the cement content is thoroughly explained and verified in this study.
