Abstract

The active species in magnesium electrolytes is regularly assigned as being the thermodynamically stable dinuclear [Mg₂Cl₃]⁺ cation. By deliberately targeting other implicated aggregates, their effect on Mg-ion battery performance is easily ascertained.
