Abstract

Lysozyme hydrolyses β-(1,4) linkages between d-glucosamine and N-acetyl-d-glucosamine units in chitosan, and degrades one of the bifunctional crosslinks in chitosan–genipin hydrogels. Degraded particles have potential to be renally excreted in vivo.
