Abstract

Precisely engineering the electron donor in a twisted D–π–A system achieves mitochondria-targeting and AIE-active NIR photosensitizers with the 1O2 quantum yield up to 6.8 times that of Rose Bengal. NIR image-guided PDT has thus been realized.
