Abstract

Dr Vulimiri Ramalingaswami was born on 8 August 1921 in Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh (India). He was known to his family and friends as ‘Rama’ and that is how he will be referred to in this memoir. Rama was undoubtedly the most outstanding, multifaceted medical personality of independent India, as can be seen from the following brief introduction.
