Synthesis of Coal Gangue-Based Mesoporous X Zeolite with Soft Template and Its Adsorption Methylene Blue

Abstract

In this article, coal gangue-based mesoporous X zeolite was synthesized by soft template method (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide was added as mesoporous template). By the optimization of experimental conditions, We determined that n(SiO2)/n(Al2O3) = 11.0, crystallization time of 48 h and n(CTAB)/n(SiO2) = 0.03 were the best synthesis conditions. The gangue-based mesoporous X zeolite has a specific surface area of 604.7 m2/g and a pore volume of 0.110 cm3/g. Under the optimal synthesis conditions without adding templating agent, the pore volume of X zeolite increased by 3.3 times. The effect of coal gangue-based mesoporous X zeolite on the adsorption performance of methylene blue was studied. The results showed that the best adsorption conditions were 0.06 g zeolite dosage, 75 mg/g initial concentration, and 60 min shaking time. The results showed that the removal rate and adsorption capacity of methylene blue were 91.49% and 34.31 mg/g, respectively. The adsorption capacity of methylene blue on X zeolite without template agent was enhanced 1.7 times.
