MMPI Personality Characteristics of Physical and Social Science Students

Abstract

291 graduate students and 4-yr. graduates in physics, zoology, sociology, and history were used to test 8 hypotheses derived from previous MMPI studies of science students of the 8 hypotheses 2 are supported: (a) the physics and zoology majors are higher on Si than the sociology and history majors and (b) the upper BA students (in terms of GPA) are higher on Mf than the lower BA students. Also, among the 4-yr. graduates, the physics and zoology majors are considerably higher on MSAT, Eng z, and GPA than the sociology and history majors. Finally, the two-point MMPI code classification revealed that the 34–43 is the modal code type in sociology, and 49–94 in history.
