Abstract
Creativity is defined as a multidimensional process of interaction between the organism and its environment which results in the emergence of new and unique products, the three main dimensions of creativity being level, field, and type. Within this definition 12 hypotheses are advanced to account for the what, why, and how of creativity. Theoretical contributions by Freud, Jung, Adler, Rank, the neo-Freudians, inter-personal theorists, trait theorists, and association theorists are considered and relevant research findings offered.
