Abstract

Roe theorizes that occupational choice is a function of the individual's Environmental-Interpersonal orientation. A projective technique, the Hand Test, was used to determine whether the magnitude of projected interpersonal responses was related to occupational status. Engineers were compared with life insurance managers and bank employees. These samples (which were drawn for other research purposes) and the samples of normal Ss from the Hand Test manual generally supported Roe's proposal.
