Abstract
Recent studies have questioned earlier work on the child's mode of matching perceptual stimuli with color and form choices. Specifically, these studies report sex differences and one failed to support established age differences. The current study presented 80 preschool children and 80 older children with perceptual stimuli to be matched by either color or form choices. The results support the earlier studies in that age differences were highly significant (younger children match on basis of color) while there were no sex differences. These results were considered in relation to Piaget's concepts of centration and decentration.
