Abstract
Cautela has developed since 1977 a variety of reinforcement survey schedules to aid in the identification of reinforcing consequences. The history of the development of these scales, as well as directions for administration and scoring are presented. Suggestions for clinical use include developing rapport, shaping behavior during therapeutic sessions, devising specific treatment plans, and assessing treatment goals, among others. These suggestions concerning the application of the scales are categorized as private practice, institutional settings, and research strategies. A review of the studies which pertain to reinforcement survey schedules is included.
