1. This is not a historical account but an essay. We therefore avoided any discussion on who (in the line of contributors to the idea of periodicity) deserves more credit. In the end the primacy went to Mendeleev because of his intense polylogue with the experimental community. This essay also avoids any detailed discussion of the development of the idea of periodicity.
