Abstract
The electrical method of inducing convulsions grew out of the use of convulsant drugs. Experience with E.C.T. has not proved that it is therapeutically superior to the chemical methods. One must, therefore, attribute the now almost universal use of E.C.T. to its technical and psychological advantages.
