Abstract
The paper records a series of tests carried out on an Archimedean Screw in use in a chemical plant. The main object of the tests was to increase, if possible, the overall throughput of the screw and to decide at what speed the screw should be run so as to give a maximum discharge under existing working conditions, thus increasing the production of the plant. It was found that by a slight modification to the existing screw a much more uniform throughput could be obtained and the discharge increased considerably by increasing the speed. The paper also includes some notes and formulae which, it is hoped, will be helpful in determining suitable proportions for similar screws.
