Abstract

The phenomenon of rhythm in cinema is one of the important factors that play an important role in shaping film language and aesthetics, and the viewer's thoughts and experience of a movie. Rhythm, which emerges as a result of the collaboration between different members of the film team such as the director, screenwriter, editor, cinematographer, and sound designer, guides the audience through the story and provides a road map to make sense of the meaning and emotional intensity of the film. This study aims to reveal how the elements that constitute rhythm in cinema are constructed in the film Raging Bull (1980). In the literature section of the study, the elements that determine rhythm and rhythm in cinema and how they are constructed in cinema from past to present are explained with examples from world cinema. In the light of the information given in the literature section, the film was divided into sequences and the elements that make up the rhythm, cinematography, editing, and sound and music design were analyzed. As a result, it is seen that the elements that make up the rhythm form the rhythm in a structure that serves the whole in a fragmented manner and that the rhythm has an important role in the creation and strengthening of the film not only formally but also narrative, aesthetics, and film language.
