Abstract
A precise measurement of the cross section for the production of C11 positron activity by the proton bombardment of natural carbon is described. Extensive subsidiary experiments were performed to evaluate the errors in the factors entering the measurement. The cross section is (63.3 ± 0.3) × 10−27 cm2 per atom of natural carbon for protons of range 9515 mg/cm2 of aluminum (indicated energy 98.1 MeV).
