Abstract
A study of 17 populations of larval scoleces of E. multilocularis has shown that both the range of variation of the numbers of hooks, and their average numbers, increase with increasing age of the cysts. This range of 14 to 74 hooks and the highest observed mean value of 47.72 ± 0.71 hooks, are higher than the corresponding published data for E. granulosus. The numbers of rostellar hooks in E. multilocularis depend also on the localization of the cysts and on the species and variety of the host.
