Abstract
An elegant but simple formalism is used to construct the three-dimensional harmonic oscillator in Cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates. Then, transformation coefficients between these representations are derived using straightforward angular-momentum and combinatorial algebra. Such coefficients, which should be applicable to many fields of physics, have been particularly useful in studies of nuclear shapes.
