Abstract
Some technical problems involved in the measurement of ultrasonic attenuation or absorption with the pulse techniques are discussed and criteria are established on the configuration of the pulse in relation to the properties of the medium under investigation. The problem of harmonics and subharmonics is discussed in detail and measurements (at a frequency of 668 kHz) are made to verify the importance of a correct configuration.
