Abstract
The triphenylphosphine – carbon tetrahalide (Br, Cl) system transforms N′-benzoyl-N-arylhydrazines (1), N,N-dimethyl-, and N-methyl-N-phenyl-N′-benzoylhydrazines (3) into the corresponding hydrazonyl halides 2 and 4.Tribromomethyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (7), formed by reacting triphenylphosphine with carbon tetrabromide, is capable of transforming N′-benzoyl-N-phenylhydrazine (1a) into the corresponding hydrazonyl bromide (2b) in the presence of triphenylphosphine.
