Abstract
Many manufacturers assemble products with polyurethane, but this ubiquitous material is also used in the process of making things. Because polyurethane has such unusual chemistry, it is often used during the production of products that contain polyurethane. Polyurethane is made during a chemical process where a polyol interacts iso- or diisocyanate with additives and catalysts. Different reactions create polyurethanes that take different forms like foams, sealants, adhesives, or other flexible solids. Because of the different forms, polyurethanes can be used in surprising ways, and through several stages of manufacturing.
