Abstract
Demethylation of
pregn-5-ene-3β,20β-diol dimethyl ether with ferric chloride/acetic
anhydride is shown to form the ring-expanded steroid
17α-methyl-D-homoandrost-5-ene-3β,17aβ-diol (1) in 75% isolated
yield.
