Abstract
Abstract
This paper focuses on the application of a semi-autonomous ground robot equipped with a manipulator in offshore oil and gas fields. The main goal is to evaluate the robot's ability to meet industry standards and enhance operational efficiency. The robot's functions include inspections, sample collection, and operation of buttons, valves, switches, and HMI panel. A prototype robot with inspection sensors and a manipulator was developed for offshore operations. It can be remotely controlled or set on autonomous missions using specialized software. The software also includes a database for inspection data, allowing for further AI and machine learning analysis. The robot can be operated from a control room on the same local network without any internet connection required.
Successful trial tests in the Gulf of Thailand demonstrated the robot's effectiveness in autonomous patrolling and manipulation tasks including ball valve, globe valve, button, switch, and HMI panel with some limitations on site. This robot can increase production efficiency, increase opportunity of onsite inspection/ operation during bad weather, reduce human exposure to hazards, and optimize economics in offshore operations.
