Abstract

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the ongoing development of technology result in a digital transformation which forces higher education institutions (HEIs) to introduce significant changes. These changes necessitate a new approach that encompasses not only learning methodologies but also the university’s culture, strategy, and systemic activities. In this article we present a new, unique model of Digital Pedagogies and Digital Quality Management exemplified by the case applied approach. The model shows the intersection of the‘Digital learning foundation’,‘ Enabling factors’(digital flexibility and digital learning tools),‘Systematic quality of learning management’ and ‘Challenges of Digital Flexibility’ in HEIs. The proposed model applies practices and recommendations for Universities of Applied Sciences, making it worth disseminating in this context. The model can be useful and beneficial for facilitating peer-to-peer networking in practically oriented HEIs. The results section discusses the empirical results, supported by direct quotes from interviewees and structured codifications and proposition of model dynamics. The final section of the article describes key conclusions and limitations of the model. This study provides valuable insights for university authorities, educators, and policymakers on how digital transformation influences digital pedagogies, quality management, and finally the transition of HEIs.

Technological Forecasting and Social Change 192: 122603 https://doi.org/https://doi.org/10.1016/j.techfore.2023.122603, Prior research has undertheorized the profound impact of digital technologies by dwelling on the implications of individual technologies on distinct organizational dimensions to explain the phenomenon of digital transformation. This study adopts a view of digital transformation as organizational change that is facilitated by digital technologies and has the potential to reshape every aspect of an organization. The paper aims to explore the underpinning mechanisms of a Higher Education Institution in managing digital transformation and capitalizing upon the benefits of digital technologies amidst extreme uncertainty. We engage in a qualitative, in-depth case study of a UK-based Higher Education Institution to empirically explore the combination of digital technologies and transfiguration of its organizational dimensions during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our findings highlight three mechanisms: fostering technologies to stay afloat, scaling functionalities to create new value, and justifying value to design change. Our contribution is threefold. First, we capture the conjugation of digital technologies and transfiguration of business processes, strategy, and culture in a paradigmatic case of digital transformation. Second, we articulate the mechanisms through which our case organization managed such transformation. Third, we demonstrate that extreme uncertainty catalyzed rather than hindered digital transformation., Digital transformation, Organizational change, Digital technologies, Covid-19, Uncertainty, Higher education, https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0040162523002883, 0040-1625

3. Alenezi, Mamdouh (2023) Digital Learning and Digital Institution in Higher Education. Education Sciences 13(1) https://doi.org/10.3390/educsci13010088, Higher education institutions are going through major changes in their education and operations. Several influences are driving these major changes. Digital transformation, online courses, digital-navy students, operational costs, and micro and nano degrees are just some examples of these influences. Digital technologies show a range of tools selected to include formalized learning environments in teaching in higher education, and students utilize these tools to promote their learning. The Industrial Revolution 4.0 ’s technological growth has penetrated higher education institutions (HEIs), forcing them to deal with the digital transformation (DT) in all of its dimensions. As they enable us to characterize the various interrelationships among stakeholders in a digitally enabled context of teaching and learning, applying digital transformation techniques to the education sector is an emerging field that has attracted attention recently. The aim of this study is to provide an overview of the distinguishing features of the digital transformation implementation process that has occurred at higher education institutions. In addition, how digital learning can be seen as part of the ecosystem of modern higher education. Further study is necessary to determine how higher education institutions can comprehend digital transformation and meet the demands imposed by the fourth Industrial Revolution., 2227-7102, https://www.mdpi.com/2227-7102/13/1/88, 88
