In 2021, necrotic spot of leaves and stem necrosis were observed on green pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The virus isolated through two-rounds of single lesion isolation, the nucleotide sequence of the N gene of the isolate shared 95%identity with that of the tomato zonate spot virus (TZSV) reported in China. When the isolated virus was inoculated to green pepper plants, the original symptoms appeared. In addition, TZSV was detected from the inoculated plants by RT-PCR. This is the first report of occurrence of TZSV in Japan.
