Abstract
The strain distribution near a hole in a tensile strip was measured using an image correlation method. The objective of the work was to evaluate the extent of nonlinear and inelastic response of the paper near the hole where failure was observed to take place during tensile loading. The results of experimental strain measurements are compared in part 2 with calculations from a finite element model using a nonlinear constitutive model for paper. The analysis in part 2 addresses the state of stress and strain in the vicinity of the hole at the point of failure.
