Effect of Process Parameters on Mechanical and Microstructural Properties of Arc Stud Welds*

Abstract

Abstract Arc stud welding is used to weld predominantly pin-shaped metal parts to metal workpieces. This welding process plays an important role in the field of steel structures, bridge building, shipbuilding, vehicle manufacture, manufacture of household appliances and steam boiler construction. Due to its vital importance, it is very important to determine the influencing parameters on the mechanical and microstructural properties of the weldment. In this study, AISI 304 stainless steel studs were welded onto the same type of base plate. It was observed that welding current, welding time, plunge and lift are prominent stud welding parameters. Welding current and welding time must be selected properly to obtain a high quality performance weld joint.
