Abstract
This chapter is significant because it seeks to share and discuss the key knowledge and skills gained while moving from employment in public school into the university system. Clearly and succinctly, this chapter explores an account of a terminally degreed, Black female moving from PK-12 systems into a higher education university setting. This chapter is a real-world exploration with real experiences. Grounded in the idea that all people have capital, the chapter includes an overview of the assets that similar people bring into the workplace. The themes that emerge from this retelling will provide the basis for principles/guidelines that can be used when entering the higher education field, or struggling in higher education, all while trailblazing new journeys.
