Abstract

This study examines the potential benefits and challenges of using ChatGPT, a large language model, in higher education (HE) and its impact on academic integrity. The study employed an exploratory research design and was divided into three phases. Phase 1 explored ChatGPT through the lecturer's lens, Phase 2 through the student's lens, and Phase 3 through the academic integrity lens. The study aimed to investigate whether ChatGPT could be used to create resources, facilitate group-based projects, and assist students in their academic pursuits. Additionally, it investigated how ChatGPT could potentially contribute to academic misconduct. The study proposes strategies for promoting transparency and responsible use of AI in HE and offers recommendations for future research. Overall, the study concludes that AI can be a valuable tool in higher education if it is used responsibly and in conjunction with effective pedagogy.
