Abstract
School improvement represents a collaborative cyclical process driven by the school's vision and performance data with the goal to improve students' outcomes. The authors seek to demonstrate starting points and practical ideas in planning and implementation of school improvement, while identifying the major elements and factors that influence the processes and systems of improvement. The chapter draws on some of the best ideas that emerged in school improvement research using a step-by-step approach to the development of an effective school improvement plan, including an outline of an effective school improvement plan, school self-evaluation, the role of the vision and mission, the impact factors leading to successful improvement, monitoring and evaluating progress on defined and specific actions, input-output process, data-driven decision making, the role of stakeholders, and the role of professional development and measuring its impact.
