Abstract

The next generation of technology, VR and AR, is revolutionising engineering practices such as design, training, maintenance, and collaboration. This review examines the existing applications of AR and VR technologies in engineering, including their variety, integration of new technologies, and future possibilities. This study explores the widespread use of AR and VR technologies in industries including building, transportation, biomedical and environmental engineering. The chapter covers essential ideas of VR and AR, including design and user experience. In addition, it explores how blockchain, AI, and IoT are integrated with AR and VR to enhance engineering processes and results. The study emphasises the significance of digital twins for AR/VR integration. The chapter highlights the use of AR and VR technology in industrial settings, functional design, worker safety, and catastrophe management. The overview emphasises human-centric design, optimisation, and suggests future development. In-depth research will reveal the range of options, enabling future breakthroughs in the field.
