Abstract
With the day by day increasing use of nanomaterials based products for different applications, it becomes very much important to devise methods which can produce nanomaterials with desired properties and in considerable amount. To meet these requirements, one should have precise knowledge about different methods that can be used for synthesis of nanomaterials. The first part of the chapter will be focusing on basics of nanotechnology along with the properties that generate so much interest in their study. Then different approaches and methods employed for synthesising nanomaterials will be discussed. Different physical methods like mechanical milling, sputtering, laser ablation, lithography etc. that are used for the synthesis of nanomaterials will also be discussed. Different chemical methods like co-precipitation, chemical vapour deposition (CVD), chemical reduction, microemulsion, laser pyrolysis, thermal decomposition, sonoelectrodeposition, solvothermal & hydrothermal, microwave assisted synthesis, sol gel method etc. with a focus on how to apply them, will also be discussed.
