Abstract

The number of aphasia groups and programs, consistent with a social approach to aphasia intervention, has grown dramatically over the past 20 years. This article discusses how current scientific evidence, service delivery changes, and a variety of other factors may help to explain this trend. One conclusion reached is that offering group treatment to people with aphasia is extremely important, given the amount of social isolation that often results.
