Abstract
To reduce the tooth surface measurement error of spiral bevel gear, a tooth surface registration method using an improved genetic algorithm (GA) was proposed according to the measuring principle of a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). To improve the performance of GA, the unit quaternion method was used to limit the initial population generation space, and then the simulated annealing algorithm was used to improve the search process. Finally, the measured and theoretical tooth surface was matched. Experimental results show that the improved genetic algorithm can compensate for more than 55% of the measurement error of the tooth surface.
