Formaldehyde degradation of waterborne paints over S- and C-doped titanium dioxide under visible light

Abstract

Abstract Fabrication technique of S- and C-doped TiO2 nano-particle via solvo-thermal treatments was introduced, and its appearance and crystal property were studied using transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray and powder X-ray diffraction. All of these characterisations gave a reasonable explanation to satisfactory doping of S and C in the anatase. The photo-catalytic oxidation was conducted in environmental chambers, together with UV-VIS spectra. The catalytically active S- and C-doped anatase was assessed via surveying the formaldehyde degradation of waterborne paints, and a removal efficiency of 93.9% in 85 min illustrated an enhanced visible-light activity.
