Abstract
Describes Metaplan, a management and facilitation technique that
originated in Germany, has now spread across Northern Europe, but is
still largely unknown in the UK. The participative strategies of
Metaplan make it an effective problem‐solving management tool.
Highlights how Metaplan can save time, stimulate creativity, and enable
groups to reach decisions fast and methodically. Also argues that
participative management styles and approaches need appropriate tools
and techniques, and underlines the advantages Metaplan has over the
traditional flip‐chart and OHP. Forecasts that in the UK, as in Germany,
Metaplan will become standard training centre equipment, as well as a
support for managers wanting to increase the effectiveness of their
department meetings.
