Abstract
While customers' image of retailing may be growing increasingly positive, the same cannot be said of potential recruits to the industry. A recent survey has indicated a severe image problem: while young people may list attributes applicable to retailing as something desirable in a career, deeper investigation reveals that they not only don't relate these qualities to retailing, but are unaware of the scope of the jobs covered by the industry. William Clarke looks at the survey's disappointing findings.
