Abstract
The importance of early childhood education as a foundation for lifelong learning and human development has been studied from several perspectives, including economists, child development experts, psychologists, and educators. Thus, a significant volume of scientific research on early childhood education has been published worldwide. This research aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis of published scientific studies on early childhood education covered in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) in the Web of Science (WoS) database. To this end, a survey design and the bibliometric analysis technique were used. 7,373 academic studies published between 1985 and 2022 were analysed. The analysis results yielded the rate of increase of academic studies on early childhood education, the most common language of publication, the most common type of publication, the most productive institution, the journals with the most publications, the countries with the most publications, the number of citations in publications, and the most frequently used keywords. It is believed that this research will provide a perspective for researchers who plan to conduct research in the field of early childhood education.
