The distribution of chemical fat in the bodies of scottish blackface ewes

Abstract

SUMMARYThe distribution of chemical fat throughout the major depots of the fleece-free empty body was studied in 30 mature Scottish Blackface ewes from two sources and covering a wide range of fatness.Relationships between amounts of chemical fat in individual depots and total body fat are presented. These provide information regarding rates of change in the distribution of fat with changing fatness. Information is also presented which allows estimates of the distribution of chemical fat throughout the body to be made from subjectively assessed condition scores.
