Variability in antimicrobial use among infants born at <33 weeks gestational age

Abstract

Abstract Excessive antimicrobial use is associated with adverse neonatal outcomes. In our cohort of 27,163 infants born at <33 weeks gestational age, the first week after birth accounted for the highest rates of antimicrobial use, and variability across sites persisted after adjustment for patient characteristics correlated with illness severity.
