Abstract
SynopsisThe wide variety of metazoan and microbial species frequenting the mammalian skin surface is described. The damage which they cause to the superficial barrier mechanisms and the host factors which modify their activity are examined. Predatory and inhibitory reactions between the skin inhabitants are discussed in relation to their ability to inhibit the activities of pathogenic organisms.
