Abstract
Females of Simulium ornatum Mg. were found to contain abundant fat-body on emergence from the pupa. Unengorged individuals fed on sucrose solution in the laboratory at 16–18°C. and 22–23°C. showed depletion of the fat-body until little remained after 14 days. Females engorged on cattle in the field and kept in the laboratory at 16–18°C. became gravid in 4–5 days, when virtually no fat-body remained.
