ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE (ESG) OR CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR): ENCOURAGING SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION

Abstract

This paper analyzes cooperative social responsibility and the incentive to sustainable consumption in contemporary society. To this end, a study is made of conscious or responsible consumption, verifying its main aspects in today's consumer society, then over-indebtedness and its aspects are investigated. Finally, we look at environmental, social and governance (ESG), which is translated into Portuguese as cooperative social responsibility (CSR) on the part of companies to minimize the problems presented. In order to mitigate the problem of conscious consumption, private companies are called upon to take on the role in those situations in which the government is not present. And the means that companies have found to accomplish this task is through Social Responsibility or social transformation in society in order to reach their customers. The method used is the deductive analytical one, with a qualitative approach, based on bibliographical references from books, scientific articles published on the “Periódicos” platform, theses and dissertations published by CAPES. The conclusion is that companies can develop financial education activities and encourage conscious and sustainable consumption, as people from all social classes are affected and need alternatives.
