Abstract

The development and improvement of the level of competitiveness of any country is based on a surefooted understanding and use of national advantages that any state possesses in one way or another. Competitive advantages, in turn, are based on national and regional determinants of development and can be ensured by the activities of economic entities in various industries and regions. Thus, economic entities play a major role in increasing the competitiveness of a country and a region. At the same time, the results of their activities should contribute not only to increasing competitiveness, but to achieving sustainable development of both the country and the region. At present, the integration of the principles of sustainable development in the system of assessing the competitiveness of a region is a rather urgent problem. The article proposes a system of indicators for assessing the competitiveness of the region in the framework of the concept of sustainable development in each of the three areas that are available and can be used to monitor and control the sustainable development of the Russian regions. A conceptual framework for the sustainable development of the amber industry in the Russian Federation and the Kaliningrad region has been developed. The comparison of indicators of socio-economic development of the region and leading indicators in the extractive industry is carried out. The minimum general set of indicators of the region’s competitiveness was determined, which would be possible to track and compare across all regions implementing the concept of sustainable development. There is no conflict of interests.
