Abstract
abstract
The effects of a frictional boundary plane on the propagation of normally incident plane harmonic shear waves is investigated by an approximate analytical technique. Three nonlinear models for sliding boundary friction are considered, including a new model which accounts for kinematic locking effects at large slip displacements. It is shown that maximum energy absorption at the boundary occurs in each case for an intermediate level of boundary friction.
