Abstract

The dimethylhalonium salts (CH3)2X+A- (X = Cl, Br, I; A- = AsF6-, SbF6 -, Sb2F11 -) are synthesized by methylation of the corresponding methylhalides CH3X or dihalomethanes CH2Cl2 and CH2Br2 in the system SO2/CH3F/MF5. The analogous reaction of CH2I2 results in the formation of dimethylmethylendiiodonium hexafluorometallates CH3ICH2ICH3 2+(MF6 -)2 (M = As, Sb). The salts are characterized by Raman-, IR- and NMR-spectroscopy.
